Ready for Halloween

By Narissa Khan
Art Class 2011 - done in pencil, two and a half hours.

Another one of my weekly drawing submissions. I was now starting to use my creative side of my brain instead of the critical thinking part. I could have done better with the face such as the nose, eyes, mouth and eyebrows; but my detail with the costume and texture in the cow boy uniform definitely stands out. This is when I started to like to draw. He's a cutie, don't you think? Enjoy!

Stop Motion Animation

By Narissa Khan

Communications Technology - done in Photoshop CS4, one week.

So we've done animation before, but stop motion animation is a still image with only one part moving with subtle changes. For this assignment, I used a camera and tripod and took a photo of myself with a knife and fork in front of a full plate of food. I then took the same picture but removing a piece of food off the plate every time. On Photoshop I cleaned it up, animated and presented my final project.

Aside from normal animations on Photoshop and pivot; this game me a new understanding of a different type of animation by using new techniques and having multiple layers on Photoshop. It definitely represents me since I'm short yet I eat a lot. It's also pretty funny! It was cool putting it together and even better when looking at my final product.

Vintage Travel Poster

My Creation

Media Arts Class - done in Photoshop CS4, one week.

Our job was to create a vintage travel poster by recreating an existing vintage travel poster from the place of our choice. Although it may not be the exact same, it has much of the same features. All the elements including the building, beach and palm tree in my design are all taken from separate images.

Using something called artistic cut-out and using other methods to give texture, it gave my poster a vintage look and helped the images look as if it were coming off the page. It was a technique that helped me to understand the difference between what advertiser use when making things look modernized or old fashioned.

By clicking the link above, it will bring up the original vintage Cuban travel poster which was my inspiration and what guided me towards my finished product.

The Start of Summer

By Narissa Khan
June 2012

It's the end of the school year, just a few days left before summer and it's extremely hot out. Our way of cooling off during the heatwave was to go swimming.

Of course I bring out my phone and capture my little sister Maryam, who truly is a fish, jumping up from the water. Not only was it refreshing but we had an amazing time together swimming, laughing and just having fun in the heat!

Content in the Sun

Weekly Drawing's

Art Class 2010 - done with pencil, one hours.

During my art class one semester, we were assigned to submit weekly drawings in our sketchbook. This flower in my neighbours garden just looked so content in the sun. I'm not too sure what kind of flower it is and although there were a few, these two in particular had a grace to it and I had to draw it. I personally think it looks awesome and is one of my best sketches I've done in my class. I hope you like it!

Reflective Words

Media Arts Class - done in Photoshop CS4, one day.

Its a word, created entirely out of a picture. Our job was to use one word that would perfectly a setting or photograph. Taken from Google, I thought the beach would definitely represent the word relax. This is actually really neat to learn. It helped me with other assignments in other classes, I enjoyed working on it, and in the end - it looks pretty good too.

The End of a Great Day

By Narissa Khan

Sauble Beach 2011

After a full day of swimming, building sand castles and laying in the sun; we ended it off by taking this picture. The breathtaking sunset in the background and the five of them jumping up in our last bit of excitement as the day came to an end.

That day was a truly amazing day. Totally worth the four hour drive, but who can blame us?

The weather was gorgeous, we swam, laughed and most of all, we had fun.  The whole family together just having a good time. No stress or no work; just the water, good food, the sun and family - what could get better than that!
